Just about every kid had a truck phase at some point - and it's not hard to see why. From fire trucks to school buses to long-haul semis, these massive vehicles are certainly impressive as they sail through the streets. They've come a long way since the early days of American trucking - and you can take a trip back in time in Basking Ridge. A massive collection in New Jersey is the world's largest number of antique trucks in one place, and even more impressively, it's all the work of one man. The Mahan Collection Foundation is spread over multiple buildings and forty acres, and any truck lover will be in heaven without ever having to leave The Garden State.
Gary Mahan is a New Jersey resident, grandfather, and retiree with one big passion - restoring antique trucks. And that passion has gotten much bigger than anyone expected.
What started as a humble little home collection has turned into the largest collection of antique trucks in the world - right here in New Jersey!
Mahan now has a team of four full-time restorers, bringing in old trucks and restoring them to their former glory.
The collection, spread out over six buildings, features classic shipping trucks dating back decades.
It goes a lot beyond long-haul trucking, too - including a large collection of heavy-duty construction and farm equipment.
Many of the trucks have been fully restored and put back into service - as transport vehicles that can be ridden at events.
Vintage school buses can often be seen at schools, as the Mahan Foundation gives educational primers on the history of vehicles.
If you want to see the whole collection for yourself, private and semi-private tours are given regularly.
