New Jersey has a reputation for being all cities and industry, but those of us who live here know that part of the charm of the Garden State is the fact that there are hundreds of adorable small towns. Take a peek at some of our favorite winter destinations below and plan a day trip or weekend getaway.
1. Mount Holly
Mount Holly is a charming town that's the seat of Burlington County. It's known for having a quaint downtown district that includes High Street and an area of shops and restaurants known as Mill Race Village. Each January, the town hosts its Fire and Ice Festival, featuring a chili contest and ice carving.
2. Ocean City
There's nothing quite like visiting the beach in the winter time! Ocean City is practically a ghost town in the chilly months, but there are enough year-round businesses, restaurants, and hotels to make it a quiet winter retreat.
3. Frenchtown
Frenchtown is a Delaware River Town that's known for beautiful scenery and great dining. Head up here for a day trip to browse cute shops and beautiful parks.
4. Madison
Madison is a little town near Morristown and it is home to a popular history museum and lots of restaurants that cover a variety of cuisine - from a casual creperie to an upscale Italian trattoria.
5. Cape May
Cape May is lovely in the winter! Treat yourself to a stay at Congress Hall and you'll be steps from all of the shopping and not too far from the sand. Visit the Lighthouse and the Cape May Zoo if you like filling your days while you're on vacation.
6. Vernon
Vernon is the place to go if you want an action-packed winter day. Hit the slopes at Mountain Creek and you'll enjoy a ton of terrain for skiing and snowboarding plus amazing views of the Vernon Valley.
