There is nothing quite like New Jersey’s scenic beauty. While there are many ways that you can capture incredible views in this great state, one of the best is on a scenic river train ride. Delaware River Railroad Excursions will let you see New Jersey’s scenery like never before. Offering multiple rides and events, such as a Winery Train and Scenic River Train, there’s no doubt that a scenic train ride in New Jersey deserves a spot right at the top of your bucket list. It’s magical, beautiful, and unforgettable.
There are several ride options available from Delaware River Railroad Excursions. Many train rides are perfect for the entire family while others are great for an outing with friends. Plus, no matter which scenic train ride you take, you’ll enjoy history, education, natural beauty, and lots of fun.
Perhaps the most iconic of the Delaware River Railroad Excursions is the River Train. This train leaves Phillipsburg at 10:00 a.m., noon, 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m.
On the River Train, you will travel 15 miles -- now two miles further than was previously offered -- into the historic town of Riegelsville, a charming small town located right along the Delaware River. There, you can de-train and visit Hootz Tavern for classic tavern food and drinks as you overlook the Delaware River. Another option is the Riegelsville Inn, where you can enjoy an upscale gourmet meal. Two hours later, you can hop aboard the next train back.
And to create even more of an incredible experience, add the Susquehanna Mining Company tour to your journey.
Here, you can learn the history of the mine and pan for gems to take home. When you are done, relax in the beautiful picnic area and admire the scenery before you continue on your journey.
From late August until the end of October, you can also explore the corn maze. For a small additional fee, you can wander through the 13-acre corn maze, which features a new theme each year. The 2023 theme is Star Wars.
The Winery Train is another great option. This train will allow an additional 45 minutes for tastings and a tour of one of the most beautiful wineries in New Jersey — the Villa Milagro Vineyard.
You'll arrive at the historic Riegelsville train station to take a shuttle bus up the driveway to the winery.
This vineyard sits on a ridge overlooking two rivers and you can see into four counties in two states. It's absolutely stunning!
While the Winery Train and the River Train both run from May to October, there are also seasonal rides that you’ll want to put on your calendar. These include A Day Out With Thomas in August and The Polar Express ride in December.
A favorite for the young and young at heart includes the Great Pumpkin Train where every child can choose a free pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.
For a bucket-list-worthy adventure, book a scenic train ride in New Jersey. It has a little bit of everything and may just make you fall in love with New Jersey all over again.
