As a peninsula, New Jersey is surrounded by water on three sides. We also have plenty of rivers, lakes, streams and ponds making their way throughout the state. Residents are never far from a beautiful body of water and stunning waterfront parks, restaurants, and scenic spots. The following are some of my favorite beach, river and lakefront places and spaces.

1. Ringwood State Park, Ringwood

This gorgeous state park surrounds Shepard Lake, Rindwood Mill Pond and several smaller bodies of water. Enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, gardens and historic homes on the property.

2. Washington Crossing State Park, Titusville

Relive Washington's famous crossing of the Delaware and immerse yourself in history at this charming state park. Enjoy a museum, historic home and stunning trails along the waterfront.

3. Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, Galloway

This gorgeous wildlife refuge is a bird watcher's paradise.

4. The Red Mill, Clinton

One of the most photographed buildings in America, the gorgeous Red Mill Museum sits along the banks of the Raritan River.

5. Navesink Twin Lights, Highlands

This unique historical lighthouse operates as a museum and offers incredible views. The site was selected as the location for the first official reading of the Pledge of Allegiance as America’s national oath of loyalty back in 1893! How cool is that?

6. LeFrak Point Lighthouse, Jersey City

This modern lighthouse seems out of place among Jersey City's towering steel structures. The lighthouse and surrounding park offer great views of Jersey City and Lower Manhattan.

7. Hereford Inlet Lighthouse, North Wildwood

Hereford Lighthouse is the only Swiss Gothic residential lighthouse on the East Coast. It is well known for its award-winning gardens.

8. Grounds For Sculpture, Hamilton

There are two lovely unnamed lakes on the property, one right near the incredible Rat's Restaurant. Enjoy waterfront dining at this whimsical spot and be sure to take in the art.

9. Zylo, Hoboken

This popular restaurant on the Hudson River offers incredible views of New York City.

10. Landshark Bar and Grill, Atlantic City

JImmy Buffet's own bar and grill, Landshark is built right on the beach and offers indoor/outdoor dining with views of the ocean, boardwalk and casinos. Enjoy American favorites like mac n' cheese, fried shrimp and a variety of burgers.

11. Sand Castle Bed and Breakfast, Barnegat Light

Right on the bay, this beautiful bed and breakfast makes for a perfect, private getaway.

12. Rhythm of the Sea Bed and Breakfast, Cape May

The website proclaims "the only thing we overlook is the ocean", and this couldn't be more true. Enjoy a delicious breakfast in this Swiss-style chalet with modern amenities including satellite TV, wifi in every room and beach chairs for your convenience.
