New Jersey is the diner capital of the country, no other state can compare; we have more diners per square mile than anywhere else in the world. While every diner is different, they tend to share a similar retro styling. Still, some diners stand out. Clinton Station Diner is one of those standout diners, unique for several reasons.
This is Clinton Station Diner.
The main dining area is decked out with moving model trains and a massive fish tank, but there's something extra special about the secondary dining area.
It's a train car!
Available for both daily dining and private parties, guests can enjoy their meal in Biela, a restored 1927 Blue Comet observation car. The car once ran regularly from Jersey City to Atlantic City.
Train car interior.
The car is in excellent condition and makes for a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience... unless you fall in love and keep coming back for more. I wouldn't be surprised, because the vintage train car isn't the only thing that makes this eatery stand out.
The burgers are BIG.
Clinton Station Diner is home to "Mount Olympus," a massive 50-lb burger. If you and four friends can finish the burger in three hours, it's free. If 50 pounds sounds too intimidating, try "Zeus," a 7-pound burger you can eat solo or with a friend. It's free if you finish it alone in three hours, or with a friend in 90 minutes. But wait... there's more! If you can finish the 3-pound "Atlas" in two hours (or 45 minutes with a friend), you can still consider yourself a victor, enjoying the burger for free as your prize.
Overall, it's a supremely sweet stop.
The train car is terrific, the burgers have held world records, but these attributes alone do not carry the diner. Clinton Station has a fantastic dessert selection, full bar and a wide range of delicious dishes.
The diner is also home to the "8th Wonder of the World." It's not a pyramid or anything like the Parthenon, but it is sure to drop your jaw. The "8th Wonder" is a burger weighing in at a whopping 105 pounds. If that's not impressive enough, Clinton Station has been featured on The Food Channel and popular game show, Jeopardy. Breakfast is served all day and patrons can indulge in a working lunch (or dinner) with free WiFi. You can find it open 24/7 at 2 Bank Street in Clinton.
