The Red Mill Museum Village welcomes tens of thousands of visitors each year to tour its picturesque mill and surrounding grounds. With the arrival of fall, the allure of the Red Mill has less to do with history and everything to do with paranormal activity and theatrical suspense. The 29th Annual Haunted Red Mill is a seasonal event that promises to thrill, surprise, and engage visitors with its labyrinth of haunted rooms and terrifying tales. Moreover, the Red Mill is rumored to be haunted, so you may just experience terrors beyond the trained actors and special effects. Do you have what it takes to tour these grounds?
The Red Mill Museum Village is a classic New Jersey attraction that visitors will describe as picturesque, quaint, and historic.
The village also includes a schoolhouse, tenant house, lime kilns, quarry office, and blacksmith shop, many of which are original to the property.
The most historic parts of the mill were constructed in 1810. During that time, mill work was notoriously dangerous, and several workers fell victim to untimely deaths. For this reason, the Red Mill Museum Village is believed to be haunted.
You'll experience the mill's history come alive in the most intriguing way when you visit the Haunted Red Mill, a seasonal attraction open on October 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, 25th, and 26th this year.
Visitors should note that the Haunted Red Mill is not for the faint of heart, and it's not recommended that children participate.
Fortunately, there's a Happy Haunt event that's appropriate for all ages. Happy Haunts is described as a startle-free version of the Haunted Red Mill. Little ones are welcome to participate and will enjoy activities such as face painting and treats. Children under 2 are admitted for free.
A tour of the Haunted Red Mill lasts approximately 45 minutes and includes five levels of terror. You're almost guaranteed to be spooked as you encounter the attractions that have been set up to frighten you.
The tours begin after dusk so that the special effects are all the more effective. When planning your visit, keep in mind that lines tend to be the longest around 8:00 p.m.
Who knows...you might just encounter some restless spirits when you visit the property this season.
Guests have reported hearing footsteps in vacant rooms, objects moving on their own, and disembodied voices -- all of which took place outside of the Haunted Red Mill event.
Whether or not you believe the Red Mill Museum Village is a haunted attraction, you're sure to be impressed by this interactive experience.
