Sometimes, the most interesting places are hiding where you would least expect them. Cafe Archetypus is one of those spots. This prehistoric cavern restaurant is tucked away in downtown Edgewater, and it's one of the most unique dining rooms in New Jersey.
Whether you're walking down the street or driving through town, it's easy to spot this Cave-themed cafe. Cafe Archetypus stands out. It truly looks like a cave, even from the outside.
If you've ever dreamed of dining with the Flintstones, you're in luck. There's no more authentic cave-dining experience in the area.
Walking through, you'll feel like you've been whisked away to another world.
The dining rooms are dimly lit, to make it seem like you really are in a cavern underground. The plants that climb the walls just add to the authentic atmosphere.
The menu at Cafe Archetypus features delicious cafe fare, including dips and appetizers...
... as well as sandwiches and wraps. Everything is cooked to order and as fresh as can be.
Be sure to save room for dessert, though. While the entrees and appetizers are good, it's the desserts that take dining in this cave to a whole 'nother level.
Try cakes and pies piled high with fruit and ice cream...
... or indulge your inner chocoholic and feast on brownies, chocolate, and ice cream.
No matter what sweets you order - cake, pie, cheesecake, or brownies - you'll go home feeling like you really treated yourself to something special.
Take a peek at the menu and current hours, which may change seasonally, on the Cafe Archetypus website. Reservations are highly recommended, and necessary if you want to sit in your own private cave.
