If there is one thing we've learned in 2020, it's that there is a benefit from getting food to go without interacting with anybody. One new restaurant in New Jersey is capitalizing on that idea in a way that's both retro and futuristic. Automat Kitchen, located in Jersey City, is an old restaurant concept made fresh for 2021!
Automats may feel like something out of the future, but they're really from the past.
The first automat opened in Germany in 1895!
The idea behind the automat was classic foods for a reasonable price. You'd pay a small amount of money and access a full meal in one of these boxes.
The automat of today is different, though. At Automat Kitchen, you place an order and pay online, then head to the automat to pick your meal up from the box you were given.
It's all touchless, so you avoid interacting with anyone — but the food is made fresh and is absolutely delicious.
Feels futuristic to us!
Automat Kitchen promises comfort classics and convenience.
The menu is loaded with universal favs like salads, soups, mac and cheeses, and sandwiches.
You can even get a pot pie or a salmon dinner, if you're feeling a little fancier.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is served all day as well — so if you're in the mood for lunchtime waffles, you can have lunchtime waffles!
Automat Kitchen is somehow both a blast from the past and a peek into the future.
Feeling hungry? Automat Kitchen is now open, so just place your order, schedule it for whenever you'd like, and go pick it up!
