While New Jersey is home to some terrific camping resorts with endless amenities (from special events to in-ground pools), there are other ways to enjoy the woods. Many of our state parks offer camping facilities ranging from tent and trailer sites to lean-tos and yurts. One of the best deals in the state is snagging a shelter at Bass River State Forest.
There are 6 small cabins along the north shore of Lake Absegami.
These basic shelters are just $48 per night for New Jersey residents and $60 per night for out-of-state residents.
These cozy shelters include two bunk rooms (one double bunk in each room), a living area, picnic table, wood burning stove, fire ring, screened double door, and outdoor grill. Water and restrooms are just steps away.
If you're looking for something more spacious, there are 6 larger cabins adjacent to the shelters. Also located right on the water, these cabins cost $75 per night for New Jersey residents and $85 per night for out-of-state residents.
These cabins include two double-deck bunk rooms, a kitchen with running water, a stove, refrigerator, a full private bathroom with shower, electricity, outdoor fire rings, and a screened in porch that faces the lake. Affordable luxury!
The locations of the shelters and the larger cabins are marked clearly on this map. Both offer fantastic views of beautiful Lake Absegami.
A weekend or vacation on Lake Absegami is a real treat. The lake is perfect for swimming and boating - boat rentals are available. Choose from canoes, kayaks, and row boats.
You'll also get to enjoy the rest of the park's amenities including picnicking, trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, fishing, wildlife, white cedar swamps, oak-pine forests, and more.
Cabins rentals are available via reservation between April 1 and October 31. You can learn more about park amenities and rentals on the Bass River State Forest website. Have you ever been to Bass River State Forest in Burlington and Ocean Counties? Did you know that it was once a CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) camp?
