In the small New Hampshire town of Brookline lies a unique and renowned outdoor gallery for aficionados of fine and unusual art. Andres Institute of Art is the largest sculpture park in New England and hosts more than 80 works of art spread across 140 acres on Potanipo Hill. Visitors can wander through the park's forested hiking trails to view the complete collection. Fans of both nature and interesting art will find the best of both worlds here.
The journey into this one-of-a-kind experience begins right at the park's artful entrance.
Throughout the park are sculptures created in all mediums from rock to wood to metal.
The natural setting of the park and its trails offer a pleasant environment to enjoy both the forest and art.
While walking the park's trails, you may encounter unusual wildlife.
The meaning of every sculpture in the park may or may not be obvious. That's what is wonderful about art. It's open to interpretation.
"Windows Into Big Bear Mountain" by Nigerian artist Solomon Isekejie is a long-time piece at the park. This metal and glass work invites visitors to sit and contemplate.
In addition to the works of art created by humans, there are also works of nature in the form of beautiful views from the slopes of Potanipo Hill.
A printable map of the trail system depicts all of the current sculptures that are up for public viewing.
The map (PDF) can be downloaded from the Andres Institute of Art website.
Andres Institute of Art is open all year long as the views of the sculptures can change dramatically depending on the season. for more information, visit the Andres Institute of Art website or follow them on Facebook.
