This New Hampshire Road Trip Makes For A Weekend Adventure

As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.

Looking for something to do on a weekend that doesn’t involve work around the house or catching up with stuff that didn’t get done during the week? Put all of that aside for one more week and consider a two-day road trip with an overnight stay. You work hard and live hard, and gosh darn it, you deserve it! You don’t even have to think about the itinerary because I’ve planned out this little adventure for you. Now pack that overnight bag and let’s get going on this exciting New Hampshire road trip!

This road trip starts in the town of Lincoln off Interstate 93. Lincoln acts as a gateway to the White Mountains region and is also a popular destination for skiing due to the presence of Loon Mountain Resort.

A short hop, skip, and a jump up I-93 brings us to Franconia Notch State Park. The park's dramatic scenery and natural attractions provide plenty of opportunities for exploration right off the highway.

North of Franconia Notch, Route 3 arrives in the village of Twin Mountain and by now you may be hungry! Munroe's Family Restaurant has you covered with good old-fashioned comfort food.

Turning east onto U.S. Route 302 from Twin Mountain, make a stop at a scenic overlook that showcases the Omni Mt. Washington Resort (formerly the historic Mt. Washington Hotel) against the backdrop of the Presidential Range.

Next up, before descending through Crawford Notch, take a short hike up to Mt. Willard, which offers one of the best views in the White Mountains for little effort.

Day one complete! Now it's time to wind down and a perfect place to do that is this log cabin in Bartlett. It sleeps up to nine people, is pet-friendly, and has a gourmet kitchen. See you in the morning!

Hopefully, the start of day two sees you rested and ready to explore the shops of North Conway. Don't forget to grab some breakfast! I can heartily recommend Peach's Restaurant.

Leaving the Conway area, the final leg of this journey will be along the Kancamagus Highway. This scenic byway cuts through an area of the White Mountains and offers plenty of places to stop and explore the many natural attractions such as Sabbaday Falls.

"The Kanc," as it's locally known, also offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains from several designated scenic vistas. These views will accompany you as you descend the western side of Kancamagus Pass back toward Lincoln.
