One of the best ways to see the landscape of New Hampshire is by getting out into that landscape. You can do that a number of ways, from hiking through your own backyard to taking a beautiful drive on a lazy Sunday. For those who want to take it up a notch, we recommend this train excursion. It will take up a good part of the day in the most lovely way possible!
North Conway, situated in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, is one of the most lovely scenic towns in the state!
And it's home to one of our favorite attractions in the state. The Conway Scenic Railroad offers trips throughout the region, perfect for renewing your love of the state.
The railroad offers a few different journey, but today we're focused on The Mountaineer.
Previously known as the "Notch Train," the Mounatineer route travels through the Mount Washington Valley and over Crawford Notch.
This 60-mile route travels on the Maine Central Railroad’s Mountain Division line. These historic tracks date all the way back to the 1870s!
The journey is almost six hours every corner you turn will be worth the time you devote to this quintessentially New Hampshire experience.
The coach seats offer a comfortable ride with plenty of window views.
And if you choose to sit in the Mountaineer Premium Class's Upper Dome on the Dorthea Mae your window views will also be through the roof!
With the premium or first class packages you'll also get lunch, which is a fun addition to this trip.
No matter which seating option you choose, you'll love the views that come with this trip through some of the most gorgeous parts of the state.
The Mountaineer runs from the spring through November on various days depending on the season. From the start of November 2021 through November 20th, rides take place on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
