Are you brave enough to visit a haunted cemetery? Cemeteries are always creepy, especially in a place as old as New Hampshire, where original graves may now be in the woods or even built over. However, these seven haunted cemeteries in New Hampshire are especially creepy. From strange noises to odd apparitions, you are sure to encounter something spooky at these sites.
1. Point of Grave Burial Ground, Portsmouth
One of the oldest cemeteries in the state is said to still be home to ancient ghosts. Visitors have heard footsteps behind them when no one else is around. The tomb of Dr. Vaughn, in the right hand corner of the graveyard, is said to glow when it is captured on film.
2. Pine Hill Cemetery, Hollis
This cemetery is famous for one haunted grave in particular. It is said that this finger on Abel Blood’s grave – which is supposed to point toward heaven – instead points downward at night.
3. Gilson Road Cemetery, Nashua
Ghosts and a black hooded figure are said to roam this cemetery in Nashua. Visitors have also reported unnatural physical sensations like being pushed back when walking into the cemetery and the sensation of walking through water when moving toward the middle.
4. South Cemetery, Portsmouth
Here you can view the graves of the victims of the Smuttynose Murders, the gruesome attacks that gave the Isle of Shoals its haunted reputation.
5. Vale Cemetery, Wilton
Visitors report that blue lights rise from a grave and sink back into the ground in this haunted graveyard.
6. Stark Road Cemetery, Conway
It is said that this cemetery glows at night, and that eyes follow travelers all the way down Stark Road.
7. Woodland Cemetery, Keene
This entire cemetery, and the Sumner Knight Chapel that resides on it are said to be haunted by a variety of spirits. A hostile spirit is said to live in the chapel and a little girl is said to roam the grounds. In perhaps the most odd haunted report, it is said that people who curse in front of the chapel will have their mouths washed out with ivory soap.
