General stores and country stores are part of the fabric of New Hampshire. Almost every town in the state had them at one point, and many still survive today to serve the needs of locals and visitors alike. In sleepy Chichester, New Hampshire, there is one store that you must visit if you're looking for traditional baked goods and locally-made items.
It may be easy to miss if you're cruising down Route 28, but keep your eyes open at the highway's junction with Main Street and you'll come to Chichester Country Store. This local establishment, in addition to the tremendous baked goods, also offers gifts as well as an old-fashioned country breakfast.
The store has a notable place in the history of Chichester. Revolutionary War soldier Caleb Pearson came to town in 1784 and built a grain mill and a fulling mill. He later began selling food and spirits to travelers and his tavern grew into a full blown trading post. The building was eventually moved across the road and is now home to Chichester Country Store.
The star attraction at Chichester Country Store is their famous apple cider donuts. These tasty treats are made with freshly-pressed juice to bring out a tangly, apple-scented flavor.
Valentine's Day season means it's time for sweets for your sweets! You can find some of the finest fudge and chocolates at the store for that special someone.
Kick off the morning with a cup of fresh-brewed coffee and a muffin right from the oven.
Cinnamon roll apple pie is the perfect accompaniment for any meal!
The baked goods at the store are always made with careful attention to the finishing touches that will catch your eye (and stomach!).
If you're passing through Route 28, be sure to stop at Chichester Country Store and grab some delicious apple cider donuts! Visit the store's website for more information and stay in the loop by following them on Facebook.
