Is there anything more lovable than an animal? Furry and friendly, animals are a great way to calm the nerves. In fact, many animals are used as therapy for people who suffer from a variety of illnesses. But you don't need anything except a love of creatures big and small to appreciate a visit to the sanctuary we recently learned about. They work to care for farm animals who might not otherwise have a home and we love the work they're doing.
Amazing Grace Animal Sanctuary in Sullivan got its start about ten years ago.
Back then, Donna Watterson and her husband Daryl were already caring for rabbits and a few goats. But about two weeks before their move to the Sullivan area, they learned that a pair of donkeys needed a safe, new home.
Donna loved the idea of adding a donkey to the family and expanding into an entire sanctuary was a dream. They began with 10 empty stalls that were quickly filled with cuties in need of a safe space.
Today Amazing Grace is home to horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, alpacas, pigs, chickens, turkeys, and a bunny.
The animals here are not only loved and cared for by the family, but they even get to make trips to other people.
They've visited schools, Girl Scout troops, and local fairs just to name a few of their destinations.
When they're not meeting and greeting new friends, they are being cared for and receiving love and any medical care they need.
This sanctuary is a special place and each and every creature is so lucky that Donna and Daryl and their family took a chance on starting this refuge.
If the idea of meeting this special brood of animals is appealing, consider getting in touch with the farm to plan your own visit. Or, if you have a special group who would benefit from a visit ask them how you can make that possible.
They also host events on the farm throughout the year. Attending these is a great way to get to know them a little better. And, of course, it's always fun to be friends with adorable animals.
Amazing Grace Animal Sanctuary welcomes visitors as long as you make a reservation in advance. They'll even come to your event or function! You can learn more about how they got their start, what they do today and how to make a reservation by visiting their website. You can also follow them on Facebook to keep up with everything going on at the farm. Be sure to keep track of scheduled events, too. They can be reached at 603-358-0578.
Proving just how great this state is, there's another wonderful animal rescue we recommend. Tomten Farm is an incredible animal sanctuary hidden right here in New Hampshire.
