From the many state parks to the simple trails located in small towns around the state, there's an adventure to be had from border to border! The ones we love the best are those that pack a punch and today's activity certainly does. With lots to see and a level of adventure that might be new for some, this is a great trail to tackle when you're in the mood for something unique.
The Falling Waters Trail, located in Franconia Notch, offers a great way to get to the summit of Little Haystack Mountain. But if you hike just a portion, you'll find an easy route leading to a few different beautiful waterfalls.
Franconia Notch State Park in Lincoln is the prefect place to enjoy the outdoors. With some of the best waterfalls in New Hampshire, you're sure to be in for some great sights!
You'll find the trailhead just off I-93N. Just head approximately 1.5-miles beyond the Basin exit.

Nestled in the vast White Mountain National Forest, Franconia Notch is a special gem. The area features mountains, Echo Lake, and of course, many waterfalls!
Falling Waters Trail to Little Haystack waterfall in Lincoln, New Hampshire might be a scramble at times, but the view will definitely be worth it!
The route begins slightly sloped, but not with any serious elevation. About a quarter-mile into the trail you'll cross a lovely footbridge where the trail meets Old Bridle Path. Continue on Falling Waters Trail.
Soon the trail will become a bit more difficult with exposed roots and some rocks. You'll also begin to get some of those nice water views.
Watch your footing in any place that requires going over the water as things can be quite slippery depending on the recent weather.
In the fall, the hardwood forest absolutely comes alive!
This popular hiking trail is a favorite for good reason. Though it is one of the tougher hikes in the area, it is also one of eeh best waterfall hikes in Lincoln, New Hampshire.
The first waterfall you'll come to is Stairs Falls which is less than a mile into the hike.
Continue on the trail following Dry Brook and you'll soon reach Swiftwater Falls.
The route dips in and out of the rocks so you'll definitely need to continue watching that footing. Next up is the best of all!
Cloudland Falls offers an 80-foot drop and the trail leads to the top giving you an incredible view.
Stick around here for some photos and quiet time before turning around and heading back the same way you came.
You can also choose to continue the hike upwards towards the summit of Little Haystack. But remember that this route is considered challenging so if you're not an experienced hiker it's best to head back and recall the memories of this beauty of a route.
Falling Waters Trail continues to the top of Haystack Mountain, but if you choose to do the entire route remember that it's considered difficult. Choose to turn around after the last waterfall and you should enjoy an easier hike.
