If you like small, remote, isolated towns, then you're going to love Jarbidge, Nevada. This is not only one of the most isolated towns in Nevada, but in the entire country as well. Jarbidge is nestled in the northeastern part of the state near the Idaho border - and it's three hours north of Elko. That will give you an idea of how remote this place is. However, we think it's worth checking out and is absolutely worth the trip. Read on to learn more about this tiny town that has a population of just about a dozen in the winter, and about a hundred during the warmer months.
Jarbidge is tiny. And, it's in the middle of nowhere.
It has an interesting history. The town began as a ranger station for the nearby Humboldt National Forest. Gold was discovered nearby, and the population of the town grew - until it was leveled by fire in 1919. Since then, it's always been small.
The last stagecoach robbery in the nation happnened in Jarbidge in 1916.
The residents of Jarbidge like it small. This is the main strip. As you can see, there's only dirt roads in town.
There's a post office, of course.
And a fire department.
There's also a Community Hall that hosts local events and gatherings.
Fortunately, you'll be able to get gas in Jarbidge - you'll need it for your drive back to wherever you came from.
You can stay at the Outdoor Inn while you're visiting Jarbidge. It's actually your only hotel option in town.
There's an adjacent cafe where you can have something to eat.
You might do a little shopping at the Jarbidge Gift Shop.
Lazy days await you in Jarbidge. If you really want to get away from IT ALL, this is where you go.
