We’re so fortunate to have the vast National Wildlife Refuge system here in the United States, where millions of acres of land are protected for the sake of wildlife preservation. With more than 560 wildlife refuges across the country, Nevada is home to the largest national wildlife refuge outside of Alaska! Come to experience Desert National Wildlife Refuge, a place like no other right in Nevada’s own backyard.
Located just 23 miles north of Las Vegas, Nevada, Desert National Wildlife Refuge is an incredible sight to behold. The Desert National Wildlife Refuge is a place so completely different from the busy streets and bright lights that Las Vegas is known for.
Stop by the convenient Visitor’s Center located on Corn Creek Road. Inside, you’ll find fascinating exhibits and helpful staff ready to answer all of your questions. There’s even convenient shaded parking, which is a nice relief from those sweltering Nevada days.
A natural springs feeds into Corn Creek, which draws many animal species to the area.
At the Desert National Wildlife Refuge, you will find 1.6 million acres set aside for the sole purpose of protecting Nevada’s wildlife, including the famed Desert Bighorn Sheep.
The sheep are known to travel down the hills and mountains during the cooler months, making it a great time to see them in their natural habitat!
You just might be able to spot sheep, as well as migratory birds like the Phainopepla. During the summers, look out for lizards and ground squirrels during the day and bats at night!
There are well over 52 species of mammals and over 320 species of birds in the refuge. Add to that more than 500 native Nevadan plant varieties and you will have a wonderful time with so much to discover!

Hit the trails and see the grand Mojave Desert in southern Nevada for yourself! Dress for sunny days and very little shade. Don’t forget to pack lots of water, too, as you will be exposed to the elements and arid, dry conditions.
Hike this stunning area and you’ll be rewarded with incredible views! There are many paths to choose from, ranging from easy to very difficult to traverse.
The trails closest to the Visitor's Center are the easiest. Trails farther out become moderate to difficult.
One of the top-rated trails in the refuge is Corn Creek Nature Trail. An easy trail that’s great for the family. It takes you through 1.3 miles of mountain scenery, native vegetation, and views of the Corn Creek. Bring the kids and even your furry friends!
The Desert National Wildlife Refuge is simply massive! It encompasses smaller refuges like Ash Meadows, which focuses on protecting wetlands, as well as the Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge.

Halloween Town Pumpkin Patch in Las Vegas is a pumpkin patch and so much more. There are rides, games, pumpkins, food, and attractions for visitors of all ages, and wearing your Halloween costume is encouraged. There are actually three locations around town - one in Boca Park (which is geared toward kids ages 2 to 10), one at Silverado Ranch, and one in Las Vegas Southwest. You'll love them all!
