This is shaping up to be a very hot summer, so we're all looking for fun ways to cool off. In Omaha, one of the best ways to do just that is at Nebraska's only swim-up bar.
Breakers Bar is located at Fun-Plex, Nebraska's largest waterpark. Most of the park is dedicated to wholesome family fun, but this fun swim-up bar area is strictly for grownups.
The unique tiki bar opened in 2016. It was a welcome addition to this popular park, in part because it's only open to visitors who are 21 and older. The vibe is a little slower and calmer than the rest of the park; you can just float around and enjoy the sun for a while without the rambunctiousness of the main park areas.
If you'd rather drink on dry land, there's also a seating area outside of the water. There are plenty of chairs and tables equipped with umbrellas. It's the perfect place to have a drink or two while you relax and rest up for more swimming and rides.
Every Saturday, you can enjoy live music at Breakers Bay at events that extend past the park's regular hours. Most of the time, you've got to purchase a regular ticket to the park to access the bar. But starting at 7 p.m. on Saturdays, an hour before the rest of the park closes, you can buy a pass just for the bar area.
Let's not forget about the drinks. Frosty beers, frozen drinks, and fun cocktails are all on the menu here. Grab a beer or a Famous Watermelon, or go all in and order a bucket of your favorite beverage.
The rest of the park is full of energetic fun. Slide down the five-story waterslides, relax in the wave pool, get crazy on the bumper boats, or ride the non-water-based rides. This is a place you can stay and play at all day long!
Fun-Plex is located at 7003 Q St, Omaha. Through the end of June, the park is open noon-8 p.m.; starting July 1 it will be open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Regular ticket prices for 2018 are $29.95 for adults, $19.95 for kids under 4'6" tall and people over 65, and free for kids 2 and under. Find out more - including closings and special holiday hours - here. Keep up on specials and news on the Fun-Plex Facebook page here.
If you're not near Omaha, there are several other water parks to enjoy in Nebraska. Here's another one of our favorites, which is located in Grand Island.
