Lincoln doesn't have a whole lot in common with Chicago - except maybe a connection to the 16th president - but there's a little pocket of the Windy City right on 27th Street. M&N Sandwich Shop serves delicious, authentic, award-winning Chicago-style meat sandwiches that will make your mouth do a little happy dance.
M&N Sandwich Shop is located at 2643 Randolph St in Lincoln. It's sandwiched (pardon the pun) between the Exotic Gift Emporium and a tattoo shop.
Your first clue that you're in for a delicious experience is the sign proclaiming that the sandwich shop is "A Beef Eater's Delight."
The menu is delightfully concise, featuring a couple dozen variations of hot dogs, chili dogs, beef sandwiches, pastrami sandwiches, and other meaty treats. (There's even a cheese sub or a garden salad if you really must forgo the beef.)
Norm, the owner, will make your sandwich to perfection. He's got a reputation for being a bit short with customers, but order what you want without a lot of hemming and hawing and you'll get along just fine. (Besides, it adds to the "hidden gem" charm of the place.)
When you get your sandwich, try not to be shocked by how big and heavy it is. I hope you're hungry! Sit in the small dining room or carry your sandwich out - either way, you're in for some deliciousness.
If you've ever been to Chicago and loved the giant, meaty, juicy sandwiches there, this place will bring those memories flooding back.
Be sure to try the Triple Italian Combo: "Italian sausage smothered with Italian Beef, topped with Pastrami, Mozzarella Cheese and choice of hot peppers, sweet peppers or onions. Served covered with Aujus." It's big enough for two meals...but you'll want to gobble it all up in one go.
M&N Sandwich Shop is open 11 am - 7 pm every day except Sunday. Find it at 2643 Randolph St, Lincoln (the northeast corner of 27th & Randolph).
