Way down along the border with Illinois in the southeast corner of the state about midway between Kenosha and Beloit is Delavan Lake. Often overlooked in favor of nearby Lake Geneva, this lake is a lot less busy and commercialized. It also has some of the best fishing in the area. Head to Lake Geneva for a quaint, cute town and great food, but if you want to get out on the water, head to Lake Delavan instead.
With stunning views like this, it's hard to resist Lake Delavan. It gets its fair share of visitors, but nowhere near as many as nearby Lake Geneva. It's a bit of a hidden gem in that respect.
These overhead views show how undeveloped the Lake Delavan coastline is. The lake itself is more than 1900 acres and there's so much space to have a bit of it to yourself for a day.
There's a public beach and boat launch and some of the best fishing in the state.
Early morning and early evening are some of the best times on Lake Delavan. It's much less busy and you'll feel far from the hustle and bustle of every day life.
You can charter a fishing boat to take advantage of the walleye, pike, muskie and more that live in these waters.
Or just enjoy a leisurely afternoon in and around the water.
This lake is stunning at all times of the day. Folks who love it will be sad we're sharing the secret.
