A short-and-sweet trek that showcases incredible natural beauty, the Stephens Falls Trail is one hike that shouldn’t be passed up! At just half a mile, it’s perfect for those seeking a scenic stroll. Of course, the trail’s best feature is its namesake waterfall. Take a look:
One of Wisconsin’s lesser-known treasures, Stephens Falls is a picturesque 20-foot waterfall.
The beautiful cascade is located within Governor Dodge State Park in Dodgeville.
Accessing the waterfall couldn’t be easier thanks to the half-mile Stephens Falls Trail, which basically begins at the parking lot.
The trail is not only short; a majority of it is paved, making it a great choice for hikers of all ages. It’s also well marked, ensuring you stay on the right path.
The trail comes to an end at the top of Stephens Falls; however, viewing the waterfall from above isn’t your only option.
A set of stone steps leads to the base in Lost Canyon, where you’ll be afforded up-close views of the waterfall as it flows over sandstone outcroppings.
If the half-mile trek is too short for you, you’re in luck. Stephens Falls Trail intersects the Lost Canyon Trail, a 3-mile loop that also leads to the base of Stephens Falls.
After your hike, consider exploring the rest of Governor Dodge State Park.
One of the largest state parks in Wisconsin, it features over 5,000 acres of steep hills, outcroppings, bluffs, deep valleys, beaches, and more.
