Maybe you're looking for one last hurrah before school starts or maybe you're looking to keep the feeling of summer going even after class is back in session. Maybe you're looking to kick start your child's imagination or love of books. Maybe you just really love all the cool things Wisconsin has to offer. You don't really need a reason to schedule a trip to Bookworm Gardens. This charming little spot is great for kids and adults alike and you'll find there's no limit to what you all can imagine while you're here.

Bookworm Gardens is what happened when the owners thought "What if you could bring your favorite storybook to life?"

Bookworm is a botanical garden based on children's literature.

There are more than 65 gardens here and each one is modeled after a popular children's story. Their mission is "to enrich the mind, body, and spirit of the young and young at heart through exploration in a garden environment based on children's literature."

Aside from being a spectacular place to encourage reading and imagination, Bookworm Gardens charges no admission. They run on donations and volunteer time and they have been providing this awesome opportunity to their community for seven years.

In addition to nourishing young minds, Bookworm offers an awesome opportunity for middle and high school students to learn leadership and become ambassadors.

So much of what they do at Bookworm Gardens is kid-driven. They even encourage students to submit ideas for new garden themes each year. They ask for favorite books and design ideas and turn some of those into new gardens each season.

Bookworm Gardens is open May 1 through October 31 Monday - Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM and Sunday 12 PM to 4 PM. They operate their regular hours, even on holiday. Admission to Bookworm Gardens is by voluntary donation. Suggested donation is $5 per person. It is a picnic-friendly spot - bring your own food or drink and spend the day. It is a trash-free location and they ask that you take everything with you when you leave. "Take only pictures, leave only footprints. Please be a 'Friend to All' and be respectful of all the plants and critters in the Gardens. "

Join their preschool play time or take part in the nature group they formed with nearby Riveredge Nature Center. Or plan to head to Fairyfolk Festival or the weekend-long children's book festival in October.

There's plenty for adults at Bookworm Gardens, as well, including a Secret Garden Dinner series and a beer tasting in October.

Join Yoga in the Gardens every Wednesday at 7:30 am to soak in the gorgeous surroundings and a bit of the whimsy and magic while you're at it.

Kick off or nurture your child's love of reading and create a life-long reader who's full of imagination at this stellar Sheboygan spot.
