Some of Wisconsin’s most amazing places are hiding in plain sight. On the north side of Green Bay, there’s a waterfall that’s just off of Highway 57. Thousands of tourists pass the falls every week on their way to the natural wonders of Door County, without knowing what’s just off of the road. Wequiock Falls is a waterfall tucked into a county park that’s as beautiful as it is easy to reach. Here’s why you should make plans to visit Wequiock Falls.
Wequiock Falls is located just 10 miles from downtown Green Bay. It’s one of the smaller parks that Brown County maintains, but it’s one of the most beautiful.
The park is a nice rest stop if you’re taking the long trip north to Door County. The park has picnic tables, public restrooms, fresh drinking water, and plenty of parking.
But people don’t stop here for the restrooms and parking lot. There’s an amazing little waterfall just waiting to be photographed.
The park is part of the Niagara Escarpment, a geologic formation that stretches all the way to Niagara Falls.
The waterfall here won’t exactly remind you of Niagara Falls, but it’s beautiful and serene. A short path from the parking area will lead you to the falls. The flow of the water varies widely through the seasons, with the heaviest flows generally in the spring. It’s a tranquil and beautiful place in any season.
You’ll encounter a little public art in the park. There’s an ample amount of artful graffiti and a large statue of French explorer Jen Nicolet, who reportedly paddled the waters of Green Bay in 1634. He was the first European to set foot in the area that’s now Wisconsin.
There’s no fee to visit Wequiock Falls and it’s a good place for a roadside picnic. The falls is near the parking lot so it doesn’t take long to explore. If you love seeking out Wisconsin waterfalls, here are some more amazing spots that you’ll definitely want to explore.
