If you're like me, you're a bit in denial about it, but that doesn't stop the fact that fall is on its way to Wisconsin. Even as we’re enjoying the last few weeks of summer, we can’t help but look forward to one of the most breathtaking seasons in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. The leaves will undergo their annual transformation into spectacular reds, oranges, and golds and there are few things more magical. Thanks to the experts over at Smoky Mountains, you can find a fall foliage map for Wisconsin that even has a way to predict when and where maximum leaf viewing will occur.
Let’s take a peek:
This awesome interactive map from the folks in the Smoky Mountains shows (to the best of their ability) how to predict when and where you'll see the very best fall foliage. If you find yourself asking "when do leaves change in Wisconsin?", this is the perfect map to look at.
This map was for the start of fall, before any leaves have started to change.
But the awesome slider allows you to look week-to-week to figure out when the area you're in is likely to get the maximum color change.
No prediction can be 100% accurate, but this tool says the best weekend for max coverage in Wisconsin is late September. Most of the state will be in peak or near peak conditions.
Just a week later, folks up north may already be past peak while across the central part of the state will get peak color.
With temps in the high 60's and low 70's this week in at least the southern part of the state, it's difficult to imagine this is just on the horizon, but it's never to early to start dreaming of the changing leaves and making plans to go out and enjoy them.
You might want to start planning a short (or long) road trip to some of the best places to see fall foliage in Wisconsin to take in all the great colors that our state has to offer.
Now's the time to start planning a trip or hike or other way to get out and enjoy a beautiful fall day in the Dairy State.
