What are your plans this weekend? Don't let the warm summer months pass you by - make plans now to get out and enjoy West Virginia's natural beauty. Here's a little spot that you'll want to visit over and over again.
Valley Falls State Park is located in the northeastern part of the state, on the banks of the Tygart Valley River.
The park encompasses 1,145 acres and is for day use only. Amenities include picnic tables, a gazebo, hiking trails, benches and restrooms.
The Tygart Valley River runs through the park, and is the boundary between Marion and Taylor counties.
This place is truly picturesque.
This historic park was once the site of a grist mill, sawmill and shops, but fire and flood demolished the little community.
Today, just a few remnants of the mill remain.
From the gazebo, you'll have a fabulous view of the falls.
At this portion of the river, huge boulders create impressive, plunging falls.
Sit on a bench and relax for awhile, enjoying all the beauty this place has to offer.
Pack a picnic lunch; there are plenty of tables to spread your food.
Take the Tygart River Trail to explore the area. You'll find 18 miles of hiking trails to keep you busy.
Watch for wildlife while you're exploring - it's plentiful here.
The river moves fast, and the rocks can be slippery, so stay back from the banks.
This place is so lush and green - it's truly an oasis.
