While West Virginia has some world-famous state parks like Babcock State Park and Blackwater Falls State Park, some of its lesser known state parks are no less worthy of a visit. Tomlinson Run State Park is hidden away in the very tip of the Northern Panhandle, so not every West Virginian has found time to visit. Here's why you should.
Tomlinson Run State Park has a great mix of wild nature and planned recreational areas.
You'll find camping areas, hiking trails, Basketball and volleyball courts, swimming pools, a miniature golf area, and a playground.
The park has several picnic areas, making it the perfect place for a gathering.
There's a lake with fishing and boat rentals available.
Take to the trails to discover the beautiful nature in the park.
You'll find cool rock formations...
...and beautiful plant life.
If you want to stay for a while, there are areas to camp.
You can choose tent camping, or get an RV hookup.
The park also has charming little cabins for rent.
The cabins all come with electricity.
Or if you want something out of the ordinary, take advantage of the park's yurt rentals.
Tomlinson Run is the only state park in West Virginia where you can sleep in a yurt.
You can choose either a 2 person or a 5 person yurt.
Yurts can be rented from the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day. What a unique way to enjoy our state parks!
You can find out more information about the park and accommodations on their website. Directions from the website: Located in the northern panhandle 19 miles north of Weirton on WV Rt. 2, Tomlinson Run State Park is easily accessible by taking WV 8, north, where it intersects with WV 2 at New Cumberland, and following signs to the park which is just north of New Manchester, WV.
For another lesser known but still stunning state park in West Virginia, take a look at Beartown State Park.
