One of our favorite things to do in the heat of summer in West Virginia is to go swimming. And there are some absolutely incredible choices available to West Virginia locals and vacationers when it comes to hitting the water! Here are a few notable options that are especially worth adding to your summer bucket list this year.
1. An Infinity Pool
At the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, you can soak in an infinity pool with a river-and-mountain view that stretches on for miles. Learn more here.
2. An Aquamarine Waterfall Swimming Hole
At the base of Douglas Falls in Thomas, West Virginia, there's a glittering aqua pool that's perfect for a swim on a hot day. Learn more about reaching these falls here.
3. An Indoor/Outdoor Lazy River Pool
The heated indoor/outdoor pool at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, West Virginia is the perfect place to stargaze as you relax in the water. There's also a fire pit poolside for roasting smores and a lake for boating and fishing. Learn more here.
4. A Lake Beach
Speaking of lakes...we don't have any ocean access in West Virginia, but we still have our fair share of beaches thanks to the many lakes around the state! For a list of a few of the lake-beaches in our area, including Summersville Lake (pictured above), go here.
5. A Waterpark
There are several fun waterparks scattered throughout the state, including JayDee's in Inwood, West Virginia, and others on this list. Be sure to check with each waterpark before you go to find updated information about hours and available attractions.
6. A State Park
For a water adventure that's both bucket-list worthy and won't break the bank, try a state park! Audra State Park is a great one for river-swimming, as is Babcock State Park. Or here's a list of state parks with pools.
Which of these have you visited, either this summer or in summers past? Did your favorite swimming spot make the list? Let us know in the comments! You can also share your favorite secret swimming holes with us on our nomination page.
