Sometimes the same old adventure just won't do. That's where this Scuba park comes in. It takes your typical boating or swimming activity and takes it to a whole new level.
Summersville Lake, called "The little Bahamas of the east," offers many ways to navigate its waters.
Along the marina of Summersville Lake, you will find a small brown building called Sarge's Dive Shop, where you can rent or buy equipment for scuba diving. Sarge's is also the oldest dive center in West Virginia.
If you have never gone scuba diving before, but would like to try it out, Sarge's offers scuba classes and certification. They are also a full-service dive center and a licensed dealer of more than a dozen brands of scuba equipment.
Once you arrive, either to certify or if you're already certified, a boat ride out to the lake will begin your adventure.
The clear waters of the lake provide great visibility for scuba diving. While down there, you will be able to view a new ecosystem, including underwater plant life and several species of fish, such as bass, catfish and walleye. Additionally, you can explore multiple small tunnels and swim-throughs.
As an alternative, you can try some snorkeling as well, allowing you to see the underwater world of the the lake from just below the surface.
Aside from scuba equipment and classes, you can also rent kayaks, pontoons boats and paddleboards.
Sarge's Dive Shop is located at 1706 Airport Rd. in Summersville. The shop is accessible by both car and boat.
