Most state parks give you a typical experience that generally involves hiking, camping, fishing and boating. But Pipestem State Park offers a considerably more varied experience.
Pipestem Resort State Park might seem like your average West Virginia Park with some cool features. It has a high observation tower you can hike to for some great photos, more than a dozen hiking trails, biking, boating, fishing and camping. But there are some more offbeat activities available as well.
There are some unique indoor activities which include an indoor swimming pool, restaurant, pool hall, shuffleboard and the like. Outdoor features are even more varied. The aerial tramway gives you a chance to see the park from a different perspective while offering a feature typically found exclusively at ski lodges (though Pipestem does offer winter sports). It is also the only way to access the two hotels located at the bottom of the gorge.
Another feature of the park in the 9 hole golf course, which is where the "resort" part of the park seems to come in.
More unusual than that is the remote control racing tracks. Here, you can race your remote control cars and trucks on a paved track or a dirt track, whichever you prefer. Aside from this, you can also go horseback riding, play Murbles or Gaga ball, or go slack lining.
Pipestem gives visitors a very varied experience, combing the features of a resort, a state park and a few other things that belong to neither. One thing is for certain, though - it's nearly impossible to get bored at this park.
Pipestem Resort State Park is located at 3405 Pipestem Drive in Pipestem.
