Paint Creek Falls (also known as Westerly Falls) in Fayette County is a hidden gem for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a pristine and remote waterfall swimming hole destination in West Virginia. Nestled within the lush forests of the Appalachian Mountains, this natural water park offers a refreshing and tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
With crystal-clear waters cascading down rocky ledges, Paint Creek Falls provides the perfect backdrop for a day of swimming and relaxation.
The cool, clean water is perfect for taking a refreshing dip on a hot summer day, or simply lounging by the banks and soaking in the surrounding natural beauty. The falls create a serene and peaceful atmosphere that allows visitors to unwind and connect with nature.
The remote location of Paint Creek Falls adds to its allure, making it a peaceful and quiet getaway from the crowded and bustling tourist destinations. Surrounded by towering trees and the sounds of chirping birds and rushing water, visitors can truly immerse themselves in the tranquility of the natural world.
The road to the falls is narrow, and limited parking is available adjacent to the falls at this pull-off. Find more parking and a turn around a bit upstream at Westerly Road.
The water at Paint Creek Falls is clean and clear, making it an ideal spot for swimming and exploring.
Families with young ones can enjoy splashing around in the shallow pools near the base of the falls, while more adventurous swimmers can venture further up or down stream to discover hidden swimming holes, old ruins (the ones we discovered during our visit were the highlight of the trip for my two history loving kids), and smaller cascades. The natural rock formations create a variety of pools and eddies that are perfect for swimming and playing in the water.
Plus, there are lots of sandstone slabs and pebble beaches for sunbathing, and I've heard there's a rope swing, although I don't remember spotting it on our visit.
