West Virginia is a nature lover's paradise. Rural, mountainous, gorgeous - it's a stunning combination that you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the country. So if a nature fix is what you need right now, then we highly recommend a trip to almost anywhere in the state. But if you need a more specific suggestion, Audra State Park is always a good choice at anytime of year.
Hidden away on the banks of a forested river deep in West Virginia's mountains is a state park straight out of a fairy tale.
Even the name sounds like that of a princess: Audra.
And if you are looking to enjoy one of nature's most beautiful scenes, then it's to Audra State Park you should go, no matter the season.
With clear aqua green water that is perfect for swimming in the summer...
...and lush, fern-filled forests teeming with wildlife...
...and a massive overhang cut jaggedly from a rough cliff, Audra State Park offers many forms of nature, all looking their best.
Explore Audra State Park's Alum Cave Trail or spend the night in the state park's on-site campground... or do both for a truly refreshing escape into nature!
Audra State Park is located near Buckhannon, West Virginia, in portions of Barbour and Upshur Counties. It's bisected by the Middle Fork River.
