Is an African Safari on your bucket list? Even if it isn't, you might still be interested to know that you can see lions, tigers, giraffes, zebras, and more right here in West Virginia at Hovatter's Wildlife Zoo in Kingwood.
If you're ever driving through Kingwood and you see a sign for Hovatter's Wildlife Zoo with a big arrow telling you which way to turn...
...take our advice and follow that arrow to the parking lot of one of West Virginia's hidden gems.
When you get here, you'll feel like you've set foot on another continent.
With exotic animals including but definitely not limited to African lion, Bengal tiger, zebra, ostrich, camel, lemur, monkey, and sloth, Hovatter's Wildlife Zoo will give you a glimpse into a world that most of us can only imagine.
Visit with Chester the tiger...
...or see if you can spot a baby kangaroo.
And what are these animals, cows? We think not... at least, not the kind we're used to seeing grazing on nearby farms.
There's even something you can do at Hovatter's that you definitely wouldn't want to try on an African Safari - feeding and petting some of the animals!
That's right, at Hovatter's Wildlife Zoo, you can interact with many of the animals as you pass by their pens, from common farm animals to taller, more exotic ones.
Have you been to Hovatter's Wildlife Zoo before? Which of the animals there is your favorite?
Hovatter's is open 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. April to October, with limited hours in November and a drive-through light show in December. Tickets range from $11 to $13 per person, with children 2 and under entering free. Season passes are available.
