It's tough to explain what it's like to live in Washington unless you can experience it for yourself. Our state is a geographically diverse nature lover's paradise, and parts of it are beautiful beyond our wildest dreams. For a perfect example, just head to the Olympic Peninsula and find the beach that has its very own waterfall.
The beaches of the Olympic Peninsula are absolutely otherworldly, and Third Beach is no exception.
You'll find Third Beach near LaPush. From Highway 101, drive west onto Highway 110 at the intersections of Highway 110 and Highway 101. Cruise for about 10 miles and you'll reach the trailhead for Third Beach Trail.
The Third Beach Trail is about three miles long, and every step is scenic.
From the parking lot, you'll trek through some lush, green forest down a path that takes you straight to the beach.
The Olympic Peninsula is often gray and foggy, so walking through the forest feels especially magical.
And once you see the ocean, you'll know your beachside walking is about to begin.
Make sure to allow time for some beach-combing along the way.
Just like the equally as beautiful Second Beach to the north, the tide pools here are often full of sea life you'll love observing.
As you walk along the shoreline, you may start to notice water cascading down the sides of the cliffs.
That's not your imagination -- it's Strawberry Bay Falls. This is one of the few waterfalls in the Pacific Northwest that flows directly into the ocean, dropping off a high bluff and into the sea.
The waterfall appears about 1.3 miles into the nature trail, and it's pretty spectacular.
This waterfall doesn't always flow all year long. When the coast hasn't seen rain in a while, it tends to temporarily dry up. However, if you know this part of the state well, you know that's not typically a cause for concern.
Third Beach is absolutely gorgeous, and the waterfall certainly enhances its rugged natural beauty.
The next time you're exploring the Olympic Peninsula, this little piece of paradise is worth seeking out.
It's not every day you can spot a waterfall cascading straight into the ocean. Have you ever explored Third Beach?
