There are two types of Washingtonians, those who enjoy hiking and those who simply haven't found the right trails yet. But whether you're a total novice or you're on your 10th pair of hiking boots, you'll love exploring the West Fork Foss Lakes Trail. Not only does this beautiful hike take you straight to Trout Lake, but it's also a great trek for hikers of all skill levels.
You'll find this tranquil three-mile out-and-back trail deep in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, near the town of Skykomish.
This isn't the only trail that leads to Trout Lake, but it's one of the shortest and most beautiful.
This trail is open all year, but you'll find that most hikers use it between April and September.
For the remaining months, you might have to bring your snow shoes to enjoy it.
The elevation gains are fairly low here and the switchbacks are minimal, which is why the hike is ranked as easy.
Dogs are welcome to join you as long as they're leashed, and this is a great hike for children (although it may be too much for very young kids).
After about 1.5 miles, you'll reach the beautiful Trout Lake.
There is a town called Trout Lake in Klickitat County, but we're confident that there won't be any confusion once you see this epic body of water.
While it's much harder to access in the wintertime, it's definitely worth it.
This alpine lake is nothing short of gorgeous.
Spend some time by the water enjoying the sweeping views.
There is a small natural beach area, and you might spot some people swimming in the summer. You're welcome to swim in this lake, but it stays ice cold.
The West Fork Foss Lakes Trail is a highly underrated gem.
But it's also a nice, easy, low maintenance hike with a visually stunning reward.
