We're so lucky to live in a coastal state (the best coastal state, if we're being honest). If it's been awhile since you've spent some time by the ocean, this is fantastic time to explore the Olympic Peninsula. If you're up for a rather lengthy but extremely visually rewarding hike, the Ozette Triangle Trail will blow your mind and leave you breathless in the best way.
The Ozette Triangle Trail, also known as the Cape Alava Loop, is over nine miles long in its entirety.
But due to its low elevation gains and well-marked paths, it's considered a moderate hike in terms of difficulty.
This trail is both a forest walk and a beachside stroll in one, making it the quintessential Pacific Northwest hike.
The trailhead also begins at Lake Ozette, which makes for a beautiful beginning.
Paying close attention to your surroundings in this area can really pay off.
Depending on the season and the time of day, you might hear sea lions and spot eagles or other wildlife.
As you approach the rugged coast of Cape Alava, the sounds and smells of the ocean will be impossible to miss.
The fresh air of the Olympic Peninsula is perfect.
While you're welcome to hike out to the beach and back for a 6.2-mile hike, we highly recommend walking onto the beach and completing the 9.4-mile loop.
Of course, this long of a hike tends to take the entire day, so get an early start if that's the goal.
There's nothing like spotting the telltale ocean mist and sea stacks of the beaches of the Olympic Peninsula.
Sometimes they look downright otherworldly.
As you can imagine, this trail tends to be pretty popular in the summertime.
That being said, it's nice and quiet in the off season. You might not see another hiker for miles at a time.
Have you ever hiked this beautiful trail?
