We all know Washington is an incredibly unique and diverse place, offering everything from mountain trails and forests to rural landscape and breathtaking ocean beaches. It also happens to be home to one of the largest temperate rainforest in the country, second only to Alaska's Tongass National Forest. And if you've never explored the beautiful Hoh Rainforest, here's why you should add it to your bucket list.
The Hoh Rainforest is located in the beautiful, mystical Olympic National Park.
It's known as one of Washington's most incredible natural wonders.
The reason it stays so lush and green here is because the rainforest sees a whopping 14 feet of rain a year, on average. The prevalent fog and mist contribute to the moisture as well.
By comparison, Seattle gets about 36 inches of rain a year. This makes The Hoh one of the wettest parts of the continental United States.
The best way to see The Hoh is by taking the one-mile Hall of Mosses Trail.
The trail is easy, well-marked, and totally beginner friendly.
The forest along the trail is full of old temperate trees covered in moss.
Luckily, the moss doesn't damage the trees at all.
Although the hike is short, you'll want to stop often and take in all the beauty.
You can expect to spend around an hour traipsing through The Hoh.
The Hoh Rainforest has been awarded the distinction of being a World Heritage Site and a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
We're lucky to have this unique landscape here in Washington.
Since it's so easy and accessible (not the mention beautiful), this trail can get pretty crowded.
Go in the morning or after 6 p.m. if you'd like a shot at enjoying some solitude.
The Hoh is truly incredible. It's one of many must-see spots in Olympic National Park.
