No offense to TLC, but in the Evergreen State, chasing waterfalls is one of our favorite activities. There are an almost overwhelming number of hiking trails with waterfalls in Washington just waiting to be explored. If you're looking for the best waterfall hikes in Washington, it doesn't get much better than the Siouxon Trail. This hike will take you to plenty of small waterfalls along the way, plus there are two major cascades that are the cherry on top of this great hike in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
You'll find the Siouxon Creek Trail in southwest Washington, near Amboy. It's in the beautiful Grifford Pinchot National Forest, a 1.32 million-acre preserve that boasts some of the prettiest land in the state.
There are several routes you can take to hike through this area. This particular trail is quite lengthy. If you're interested in exploring the hike in its entirety, you'll want to consider camping overnight.
You'll find plenty of camping spots along the way, particularly early in the trail, before the Mile 5 marker.
The trail is nestled within a lush slope forest of Douglas fir and western hemlock trees.
This is an unbelievably peaceful trek with fairy tale surroundings.
The forested backdrop is made even more perfect by several smaller waterfalls you'll see along the path.
From punch bowl plunge pools to cataracts and bridal veil displays, the trail has an amazing variety of waterfalls.
The good news is that despite its 12-mile length, the Siouxon Trail really isn't particularly difficult.
It's considered to be moderately difficult. The elevation is a mere 500 feet all together, so you'll find gentle ups and downs all along the trail.
The highlight of the trail is the two big beautiful cascades, which are absolutely amazing.
The largest one is a massive plunge into Horseshoe Creek. You can easily observe it from a bridge that spans the creek.
You will want to make sure you carry along a good map if you decide to hike the entire trail.
Parts of the trail have fallen victim to harsh weather. It's currently safe to hike, but some areas are not as well-maintained as they could be.
However, despite its primitive nature, this is an incredible trail that will make you feel like you're in a primordial world.
