Just because you're staying indoors doesn't mean you can't be excited for future travel. And since nothing beats spending the day surrounded by nature in Washington, we highly recommend heading to the mountains, the beach, or even the park when you're able to do so. Spokane's Riverside State Park actually has a little park within the park, and it's a little piece of perfection.
Riverside State Park is a public recreation area that sits just nine miles from downtown Spokane, but you'd never know it.
You'll feel like you're in your own world instead of just a few minutes from a bustling city.
The park is 15.63 square miles in total, but the 2-mile Bowl and Pitcher area is a special hidden gem.
All it takes is one visit to see why.
The Bowl and Pitcher at Riverside State park is truly one of Spokane’s best wonders.
The basalt formations give it a unique look, and the picnic area and campground will make you want to stay.
One of the most iconic parts of this little part of the park is the swinging bridge.
The bridge was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s. It connects different parts of the park and allows visitors to get a better glimpse of the basalt rocks in the Spokane River. The Civilian Conservation Corps was established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The Bowl and Pitcher is the name of the geologic phenomenon that is the highlight of the park.
Basalt formations cover most of Southeast Washington, and these happen to be the most famous among them.
You can hike the official Bowl and Pitcher Trail, a relatively easy 2-mile loop.
This is a fantastic way to see the highlights of the area and get some exercise in the process.
Whether you come to hike, bike, pack a picnic or just want to get away from the real world for a while, the Bowl and Pitcher makes a great escape.
And since it remains remarkably uncrowded, you won't have to share your space.
If you have yet to explore this breathtaking park, this gives you something to look forward to.
