Washington winters have been pretty volatile over the last few years. Just when we think the season is over, we'll experience some seriously severe weather that reminds us that we can never count on an early spring. According to the Farmers' Almanac, though, temperatures in Washington state are looking to be about what we would normally expect for our area. It's other parts of the country that are forecasted to be getting out-of-the-norm types of winter weather.
The Farmers' Almanac dates all the way back to 1818 (not to be confused with the Old Farmers' Almanac, which got its start in 1792).
While the company claims they have an 80% accuracy rate, experts estimate that it's probably more like 52%. That's still not bad considering most meteorologists say forecasting isn't very reliable beyond about 10 days out.
The almanac offers a wealth of information on other topics as well, not just weather predictions. Each annual edition includes enlightening articles, helpful planning calendars, and information on things such as the best days to garden and fish, how to quit a bad habit, natural home remedies, and more.
According to the almanac's predictions, we could see plenty of snow, rain, and mush this winter in Washington state.
The question most often at the forefront of people's minds is how much snow is to be expected. It's anticipated to be about normal for our area of the country this year.
Record-breaking temperatures are expected this year. Be prepared for brisk, cool conditions!
The first bite of winter is expected earlier than last year.
December 2022 looks stormy and cold nationwide ...
... with an active storm pattern developing and hanging around for most of the season over the eastern half of the country.
Whether you prefer a more mild winter or you love to see Washington coated with snow, you'll probably experience the weather you want -- you'll just have to be patient.
Luckily, nothing too extreme is predicted, so hopefully no one's winter travel plans will be affected.
We're lucky we get to experience all four seasons in our state, and Washington winters are certainly beautiful.
We'll just have to see if the Farmers' Almanac's predictions are accurate this year.
