Washington weather really is frightful right now… we’re experiencing quite the cold streak this time of year. But the chill in the air is just the price we pay for all the gorgeous winter scenery around us. There are even some spots in our state where you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the North Pole.
1. Mount Rainier National Park
Mount Rainier is always beautiful and majestic, but winter is an especially magical time.
2. The Mount Rainier Railroad and Logging Museum
Right now the annual Polar Express Train Ride is channeling the magic of the holiday season, complete with visits from Santa and his elves.
3. Kris Kringl, Leavenworth
Leavenworth's most charming Christmas shop is always a delightful place to visit, but during the holiday season you'll feel like you've just stepped into the North Pole's workshop.
4. Snoqualmie Pass
Snowy Snoqualmie Pass looks like something from a dream.
5. Mount Spokane
Doesn't this just look like it could be Santa and Mrs. Claus' cottage?
6. Point Defiance ZooLights, Tacoma
The Point Defiance Zoo transforms into Santa's village every year with their magical ZooLights display.
7. Big Four Ice Caves
A word of caution: when you visit the Big Four Ice Caves, you are strongly advised to stay out of them. However, the area itself is positively breathtaking this time of year.
8. North Pole at the Fair, Puyallup
Every year, the Washington State Fair and Event Center transforms into the North Pole. Instead of standing in line while waiting for Santa, little ones can play and enjoy themselves until it's their turn to meet St. Nick.
Christmas will be here before you know it, but there's still time to check out some of Washington's best Christmas towns.
