The Seattle-Tacoma area has many stunning views of the Pacific Ocean from the Washington coast. However, many of the beaches are crowded all times of the year. For those looking for a seaside retreat without the crowds, head to Normandy Park's Marine View Park. The scenic getaway has a hidden beach tucked within, but bring your hiking boots - a challenging but rewarding path awaits you.
The view from Marine View Park in Normandy Park is one of the best in Washington - but to get there, prepare for a short but intense hike.
The Normandy Beach Trail is mostly unpaved, and while it only covers a little over a mile, it's important to keep your wits about you and mind the signs.
But don't worry - the town loves its park and trail, and little peaceful spots have been added along the way to make it easy to stop and rest.
Much of the credit for this trail goes to the late Tom Descher, who spent much of his life turning it into a hiking destination.
Along the way, you'll see some of the unique ways that the locals have turned this trail into a quirky art installation.
The signature location of the trail is definitely its impressive three-level viewing tower.
Although it's quite the climb to get up there, its wooden boardwalk surface makes it pet-friendly and a great short hike if you don't want to head all the way to the beach.
But the view from the tower is stunning, and adventurous hikers will be even more determined to press on.
You'll be rewarded when you arrive. The rocky beach is pristine and almost stunningly peaceful.
If you stay a while, you'll get to bear witness to one of the very best sunsets in the Pacific Northwest.
