If you're indecisive like me, picking a hike in Washington can be incredibly difficult. With our state's incredible range of habitats— from ocean to desert to mountains— it's hard to know if you're making the right choice! But, if there's one area that covers the most essential Evergreen State ground, it's arguably the Olympic National Park. This destination might be famously beautiful, but it still contains some hidden gems, including one of the most iconic hot springs in Washington!
It isn't straightforward to reach the Olympic Hot Springs. Round-trip, the hike will demand 20 miles of hard work from you. Those willing to take the plunge, however, are well-rewarded for their efforts, and there are numerous worthwhile stops along the way.
Park at the Madison Falls Trailhead and head down Olympic Hot Springs Road. Many opt to travel via mountain bike, significantly reducing their time heave-ho-ing on the trail. I recommend pausing for scenic views like the one overlooking Glines Canyon. Madison Creek Falls is also a worthwhile detour, providing hikers an opportunity to refuel with a much-needed snack amid gorgeous scenery.

Incidentally, this area is home to a vast variety of mushroom species. Though you can't forage in a national park, alongside taking a course, IDing them in real-time with an experienced companion is a great way to hone your skills for later expeditions.
You'll know you're close when you reach the Boulder Creek Trailhead, just one and a half miles from the springs. Since this is a wilderness boundary, you'll have to lock your bike at the base of this final climb and continue on foot.
After crossing the bridge over Boulder Creek, you can spot the hot springs dotted throughout the forest. Pick your favorite for a soak, but test the temperature before jumping in; some pools can reach 118 degrees. Be advised that some adventurers like relaxing in their birthday suits, a personal choice that's perfectly legal in Washington.
As if this adventure couldn't be more quintessentially Washington, leashed dogs are allowed! Of course, pooches aren't permitted in the pools, but a good soak isn't up their alley, anyway.
If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind adventure in Washington, visit the Olympic National Park. Once there, head off the beaten path to these hot springs in Washington for an utterly unique experience. Though you'll need your hiking boots for the journey, a serene soak in an old-growth forest settles the score of the grueling climb.
