While we'd like to argue that every view in Washington is absolutely amazing, there's certain scenery that is just simply unforgettable and unique to our state. Recently recognized by Travel + Leisure for being one of the best views in America, seeing the spectacular sights that await you on Dog Mountain's summit is something you'll want to experience at least once in your lifetime.
A difficult hike that's worth every ounce of effort that you put into it, Dog Mountain takes you through Washington's beautiful mossy forests.
The seven-mile loop brings you to the top of the mountain where, depending on the time of year, you'll find yourself surrounded by picturesque wild flowers.
Right around the corner, spring makes for a wonderful time to explore the Dog Mountain Trail when the wild flowers begin to bloom.
Aside from seeing the wild flowers, you'll also have fantastic views of the Columbia River Gorge, Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens.
While the views from the top are undeniably dreamy, they won't come easy.
The Dog Mountain Trail has an elevation gain of 2,800 feet, making it one of Washington's trails that isn't suggested for new or casual hikers.
But if you're up for a challenge? Then you won't regret taking on this mountain to see its sweeping views.
The trails are open year round, although you may find them to be impassable during the winter.
During the summer months the trails are quite crowded, so you'll want to arrive early in the morning before the parking lot fills up or later in the evening once most people are leaving.
With views like this it's easy to understand why this mountain is such a popular one to visit. To avoid crowds you could make this a sunrise or sunset hike, giving you a better chance at some alone time.
