There are parts of Washington so beautiful that they truly take your breath away. The Enchantments, with its granite peaks, pristine lakes and jaw-dropping views, is definitely one of them. And as gorgeous as the entire area is, Colchuck Lake is its crown jewel.
The water of Colhuck Lake is a deep sapphire blue.
Rounding the corner of the hiking trail, coming out of the trees and viewing the lake for the first time is truly a life-changing experience. It’s amazing.
Reaching the lake is definitely not easy.
The 8.5 mile trail involves a steep climb full of switchbacks. You’ll also need to navigate over a large boulder field.
About 4.5 miles in, you’ll reach the incredible blue lake.
At that moment, you’ll realize it was all worth it.
Once you’ve arrived, all you have to do is relax and enjoy the amazing views.
If it’s the middle of summer, you may be tempted to go for a swim… if you dare. The Colchuck Glacier isn’t far away.
To reach the trailhead, follow US Highway 2 West through Leavenworth and turn left on Icicle Road.
If you're driving eastbound on Highway 2 over Stevens Pass, turn right on Icicle Road when you first enter Leavenworth. Then, follow the road for 8.5 miles and take a left onto dirt road 7601 when you see signs for Colchuck Lake.
