If you're new to hiking or simply curious about it, some of Washington's trails can be pretty intimidating. Luckily, the Evergreen State has a few urban trails perfect for getting used to walking in nature without the worries that come along with attempting a more secluded trek. If you've never experienced the Apple Capital Recreation Loop Trail, you'll find that it's a perfect "hike" for beginners as well as a beautiful place for experienced hikers to get some exercise.
The appropriately named Apple Capital Loop is located in the heart of the Wenatchee Valley.
The 11-mile trail is an urban pedestrian and bike trail that has been helping Washingtonians stay in shape since 1995.
The loop runs clockwise from the foot of 9th Street at Wenatchee Riverfront Park, following the banks of the Columbia River.
So not only is this an urban hike, it's also largely a waterfront one.
You'll walk past beautiful parks, diverse natural habitats, and a series of small trails connected by the pedestrian bridge to the south and the Odabashian Bridge to the north.
When it was completed, it was named the longest urban loop in the state.
This project was largely developed by the Chelan County Public Utility District as part of hydroelectric dam mitigation.
The state Department of Transportation owns the land along the Eastside loop trail.
This trail is beautiful in any season, especially in the spring and summer when the flowers are in bloom and everything is lush and green.
But if you want to explore it in the winter, you'll often see people cross-country skiing and snowshoeing here.
With stunning views of the Columbia and Wenatchee rivers, plus the surrounding mountains and hills, it's no wonder this path is so popular.
People come from practically all over the state to explore it.
This trail was fully renovated from 2008-2013, so it's in fantastic condition.
Check it out the next time you're in the area.
If you're intimidated by hiking in Washington but want to get started, these trails are all just a mile long.
