Welcome to York River State Park, a breathtaking natural area dedicated to the preservation of wildlife and the nearby Bay.
The park is a designated Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, where specialists can study the unique area where fresh and saltwater mix. As you can imagine, there is plenty of wildlife to admire as well.
The marshes of the York River also double as fossil beds, where artifacts such as arrowheads and extinct scallops can be found.

During warmer months, this might mean a paddle along the river or hike along the 30+ miles of walking paths. For a really special experience, you can even sign up for a moonlit paddle tour.
Or perhaps you may just want to find a remote corner to watch the sun set and marvel at its reflection on the water.
While camping is not permitted at York River, there are plenty of campsites nearby where visitors can enjoy a night under the stars before returning here for another full day of activities.
