Virginia is a state that knows how to celebrate water. In terms of dining, that means some of the finest waterfront restaurants around. Is there anything more wonderful than enjoying your meal with the surroundings of the Atlantic, Chesapeake, or any one of Virginia's lovely rivers? It's the quintessential summer evening, and now that warm weather is just around the corner, you'll know exactly where to go. These are just some of many, many options we've got for waterfront dining in Virginia.
1. Mallards at the Warf (Onancock)
In the midst of the quaint town of Onancock, fine dining blends in with the water quite seamlessly.
Be sure to try these mussels in a jalapeño broth.
2. The Landing Restaurant (Smith Mountain Lake)
The Landing Restaurant can be found on the shores of Smith Mountain Lake at Bernard's Landing Resort.
The only thing that competes with the gorgeous view are the works of art you'll find on your plate.
3. Island House Restaurant (Wachapreague)
The Island House Restaurant is fine dining mixed with weathered shingles. Serving crabcakes, osyters, and beef, this place will have a little bit of everything.
4. The Barking Dog (Hampton)
Located in Hampton, Virginia, the Barking Dog is a local favorite with quite a view.
It's casual food (burgers, hotdogs, fries) at its absolute finest.
5. Amber Lantern Restaurant (Chesapeake)
The Amber Lantern shows off the romantic view of the Elizabeth River...especially when there's a sunset to be seen. Imagine soft jazz playing in the background to really set the mood.
And how about a plate of delicious fried oysters to accompany that view?
6. Madigan's Waterfront Restaurant (Occoquan)
At Madigan's you'll have the option of dining by candlelight or by the light of the shimmering stars. The Topside Deck offers more of a casual dining scene complete with a tiki bar.
A fresh and colorful salad to complement a gorgeous sunset.
7. Indigo Landing (Alexandria)
This gorgeous seafood family-style restaurant overlooks the Potomac and DC.
This dessert will be the perfect ending to your dining experience.
8. The Boathouse at Rockett's Landing (Richmond)

10. Merroir (Topping)
Merroir has made a few of our other lists, and once you try anything off of the tasting menu, you'll understand why. Soak in the views of the Rappahannock river while enjoying some of its finest seafood.
During the summer months, you can enjoy Merroir's seafood broil every Thursday night.
11. The Shanty (Cape Charles)
Virginia's Eastern Shore looks like a painting from this vantage point at The Shanty. Locally caught seafood and live music add to this unforgettable dining experience.
From the menu, "Shaved slow roasted Prime Rib served over a cheddar hash brown topped with local duck egg and a side of Mattawoman Creek Farms Organic Spinach." Does it get any better?
