Located two miles south from the charming town of Paris, Virginia awaits a state park that will soothe your soul: Sky Meadows. The history of the park is just as impressive as its natural surroundings.
Within the boundaries of Sky Meadows State Park is a historic district known as Mt. Bleak-Skye Farm, which includes 23 buildings. The oldest of these buildings, Wayside Cottage, dates back to 1780.
Visitors who wish to learn more about the history of the landscape will love learning about the farming practices that shaped the land.
For those eager to get lost in the woods and beautiful meadows, there are more than 10 miles of bridle trails, 22 miles of hiking trails, 9 miles of biking trails, and even access to the Appalachian Trail.
Don't worry; there are plenty of places to rest, too. You'll find a handful of well-placed resting places so you can admire the beautiful views.
One of the most popular treks is the Whitehouse Overlook via Piedmont Trail hike. Measuring approximately 4.6 miles in length, this loop will showcase some of the most stunning views in the park.
Plus, if you plan on visiting during warmer months, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy colorful wildflowers along the way.
