By now, most of us have had the privilege of dining at some fabulous farm-to-table restaurants in Virginia. They're not too hard to come by, seeing as this soil has historically supplied beautiful crops and amazing produce for generations. But did you know that you could enjoy this farm-to-table philosophy on an actual farm? The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm provides the unforgettable experience of fine dining on a local farm. Learn more about this experience you won't forget anytime soon.
Farm-to-table is more than just a trend at Patowmack Farm; it’s the way of life. This establishment in Lovettesville was one of the first of its kind in the entire country. Having much admiration and respect for the land, the business began in hopes of providing the community with only the freshest foods. This has created a successfully sustainable system that just happens to make for an unbelievable dining experience.
Established in 1986, the Restaurant at Patowmack has prioritized sustainability all along. In other words, it’s not a model designed for the final product alone. Using organic and biodynamic material, the process is beneficial in every sense. These healthy ecosystems are all located in one of the most breathtaking areas of the state.
The site is located in Loudoun County, offering amazing views of the nearby Potomac River. The restaurant generously sources from its own farm as well as others in the county. The wine selection is also supplied by nearby wineries.
The restaurant doesn’t necessarily have the rustic atmosphere that you might expect from a traditional farm, but instead features an exquisite dining area. The gazebo, open-air tent, and glass conservatory make it a popular venue for weddings as well as other special occasions. It’s hard to imagine a lovelier setting to enjoy all that the land has to offer.
Just as the farm is presented in a beautiful, garden-like setting, the natural produce is prepared like works of art. The chef and staff work hard to use only the produce available from local soil. This translates to a unique menu that changes daily. Seasonal foods accompany whatever the local fishermen and farmers happen to source that day.
As you can tell by these photographs, even seemingly simple dishes such as basmati rice are cooked to perfection, enhanced with local herbs, nuts, and other goodies.
You’ll be able to savor each dish, knowing that it was specially prepared for that day and season. Whether it’s a bowl of homemade soup (photographed above: the Stinging Nettle Soup), a dish of the perfectly garnished catch-of-the day, or a mouthwatering dessert, you won’t be able to take your eyes off what’s in front of you. Unless, of course, you're gazing out at the breathtaking farm itself.
